The invasion paradox dissolves when using phylogenetic and temporal perspectives

چکیده
The prediction that higher biodiversity leads to denser niche packing and thus community resistance invasion has long been studied, with species richness as the predominant measure of diversity. However, few studies have explored how phylogenetic functional diversity, which should represent space more faithfully than taxonomic influence invasibility, especially across longer time frames over larger spatial extents. We used a 15-year, 150-site grassland dataset assess relationships between invasive plant abundance phylogenetic, diversity recipient native communities. analysed both pooled all surveys longitudinally, leveraging time-series data compare observed patterns in those predicted by two assembly processes: biotic competitive exclusion. expected phylogenetically functionally diverse communities exhibit greater invasion. With dataset, we found support for long-standing observation lower species, novel finding had species. no aggregate (multivariate) on invasion, but assemblages taller plants, variability height seed mass were less invaded. Viewed relationship was reversed: most resistant This apparent discrepancy suggests dynamics are influenced site attributes emphasizes value studying time. Synthesis. Our results provide insight into nuances diversity–invasibility relationship: differed different dimensions depending whether evaluated longitudinally. findings highlight limitations using single time-point ‘snapshots’ composition infer mechanisms.

Latent cellular oncogenes: the paradox dissolves.
The 20 known transforming onc genes of retroviruses are defined by sequences which are transduced from cellular genes, termed proto-onc genes. Based on these sequences, viral onc genes have been postulated to be transduced cellular cancer genes and proto-onc genes have been postulated to be latent cancer genes that can be activated from within the cell, to cause virus-negative tumours. The hypo...
متن کاملAryan Invasion in the Indian Subcontinent: Facts and Fallacies The Physical Anthropological Perspectives
The concept of Indo-Aryan group of peoples and their invasion has played a prominent role in explaining thecultural history of the Indian sub-continent. It was propounded that the Aryans, living somewhere outside India, invaded the Indian sub-continent around 1500 B.C. and after supplanting the indigenous powers and culturessettled in India. The Aryans were held responsible for the destruction o...

15 صفحه اولTemporal Reference Frames and the Imperfective Paradox
This paper brings new evidence to bear on the topic of the Imperfective Paradox – a semantic puzzle involving tense-aspectual categories that lack completion entailments. The lack of completion entailments is usually associated with the so-called progressive and conative readings, illustrated in the Russian sentences in (1) and (2) respectively. In these examples, the matrix event described by ...
متن کاملPerspectives on the quantum Zeno paradox
As of October 2006, there were approximately 535 citations to the seminal 1977 paper of Misra and Sudarshan that pointed out the quantum Zeno paradox (more often called the quantum Zeno effect). In simple terms, the quantum Zeno effect refers to a slowing down of the evolution of a quantum state in the limit that the state is observed continuously. There has been much disagreement as to how the...
